A payment card for refugees has recently been introduced in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen – with massive restrictions:

• A maximum of €50 per month can be withdrawn in cash.
• Bank transfers and direct debits are no longer possible.
• Having little cash makes it difficult to shop affordably at markets and flea markets.
• Special exceptions require an application.

This regulation is discriminatory and unacceptable in its current form. It violates our constitution, as the Federal Constitutional Court has ruled that social benefits for refugees must not be altered for migration policy reasons.

A joint initiative by organisations in Stralsund, such as the Muslim community, the Left Party, the Green Party, GEW / LAMID, Grandmothers Against Right-wing and others, therefore wants to give refugees the opportunity to continue to have access to cash despite the payment card.

How can we help?

If you are affected by the restrictions of the payment card, we want to help you with our voucher exchange system. Here's how it works:

• Purchase vouchers worth between €20 and €50 in a store belonging to Edeka, Rewe, Lidl, Aldi, or dm.
• Bring the vouchers to our exchange point and exchange them for cash there.
